My ultimate goal for writing this book is to help you live a successful Christian life. I define a successful Christian life as one in which you walk in fellowship with God and in accordance with His calling.
Faith, prayer, obedience, and patience are, of course, foundational to a successful Christian life. Further, combining your Christianity with a well-developed skill set equips you to achieve all that God calls you to achieve.
Please understand that a successful Christian life does not guarantee material riches. The apostle Paul says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). God will provide for our needs, but He certainly does not promise to make us rich.
Similarly, when Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10), He was not referring to abundant financial and material possessions. Jesus gives us something much greater: spiritual abundance of joy, peace, grace, strength, wisdom, mercy, blessing, favor, provision, and protection.
Additionally, please understand that a successful Christian life does not guarantee an absence of struggles. In fact, you can be assured of experiencing trials in your life as you follow God’s plan. The apostle Peter tells says: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you” (1 Peter 4:12).
God can and will use various trials to test us, correct us, deepen our faith, and conform us to His calling. Don’t interpret the presence of challenges in your life to mean the absence of God. In actuality, your challenges very likely indicate that God is present and is working in your life.
Indeed, your life’s journey likely will be more challenging than you think it should be. It likely will include setbacks and obstacles that you would prefer to avoid. If you remain faithful, however, God will work out His plan in your life.
Receiving salvation is the first step in living a successful Christian life. Once you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through salvation, you need to live your life according to God’s plan, obey Him, and stay faithful.
